A Housekeeping Note

It has come to my attention that some readers would rather I not post items about how bad spec is, or what Getty/et al are doing to damage the business, and that, somehow, I should just ignore it, and instead, just do pieces about how we can improve our own businesses.

Not gonna happen. But....

What I will endeavor to do, is whenever I do a piece on an agency, or a piece on spec, or otherwise some form of a criticism, or all-out dissertation on how an organization is bad for photographers, I will post a second piece, at the same time, that fills the requests for "solutions" articles, or otherwise useful information, so, those days will become "two-fer" days, where you'll get two pieces, not just one.

Something for everyone. Everyone benefits. Everyone remains informed.

It's your blog, we read and enjoy the articles. If someone doesn't like the subject you are spending your time writing about then they have the option to not read the article.

sounds like a good idea.

I completely agree with the first comment. It's your blog & nobody's getting their arm twisted to read it. If they don't like the content, don't read it--it's that simple. I find the information interesting and useful as a noob who's been considering whether I want to wade into stock or not.

I like the longer articles. If its something I don't care for, I skip it. If people can't figure out how to skip information on the internet that isn't germane to them, they've got a long road ahead of them.

My only gripe would be a technical one, which I'm guessing is a limitation of blogger, but I don't care for the multi-installment post. If you were doing these as weekly feature, then it would make sense, but since they all usually drop at the same time why not post as one big article? Just a thought.

I agree with the others about it being your blog, post what you want! Don't change your style and bow to the whiners. Freedom of choice is what it's all about and perhaps those articles hit too close to home....

If the folks complain about your blog, send them over to "The Bitter Photographer."

The can bellyache and moan to their heart delight there.

I agree with the others. It's your blog, don't feel like you have to present both sides of an argument. It only dilutes what you're trying to do. If people disagree, they can easily post their comments following your thoughts.

I would not be here if I did not enjoy reading your point of view. I do not agree with everything, but that is why I read your stuff. It open up new ways of looking at things.

KEEP it UP!

I just pray it's closer to fact than fiction. Less time blogging, more time researching.

It's apparent from the previous comments that many people take you very literally and elevate your word to close to gospel.

Don't lead them down the path of righeousness for your own sake.

But... spec IS bad! Maybe every article written should have an opposite version, I can see it now "Man Does Not Land on Moon", "JFK Alive and Healthy", "War is Good".

Who are these folks that don't want to see the truth as it is in this business of ours?

Get used to the fact that there are a lot of "photographers" out there that don't want their photo buddies to see that they are in fact aiding the ruin of the business. These idiots are now being exposed for the frauds that they are, and how they are truly hurting this business by doing spec.

I say turn the lights on brighter, and let the roaches run for cover.

John, keep doing what you are doing. The replies in this thread alone show that there are a great many people that need you to think for them as they clearly seem unable to do this on their own. I enjoy reading your one-sided, self serving articles. It's always interesting when self preservation of ones own turf can be disguised as genuine advice.

Now now Anonymous, bide your tongue.

If you are interested in John's turf, come on into the scrum of Capitol Hill shooters and event photographers.

Need an elbow to the ribs? A couple of guys blocking your view? Bring it on bad boy. Walk the walk or shut your pie hole.
