Our success with ImageDirect was made possible by the talent and dedication of many staff members (Paul Melcher key among them). I wish Frank and Paul well in building a successful challenger to the Getty Images monolith, which has irreparably damaged the soul and ethical foundation of the art-to-business relationship of photographers, their images and the media outlets that rely on those images.

Kevin FitzgeraldKevin Fitzgeraldnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7553278593406733377.post-33854643516602036902009-09-14T03:25:36.043-04:002009-09-14T03:25:36.043-04:00getty images pays $250 for editorial work, NOT ass...getty images pays $250 for editorial work, NOT assignment work. assignment contracts issued by getty are for %50 percent of the job fee.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7553278593406733377.post-33893445023999450902009-09-11T21:58:54.961-04:002009-09-11T21:58:54.961-04:00Hey John,

I've been in position to bid against Wireimage for a shoot for a major client in the Philly region. I bid $1900 to shoot the event including the buyout requested ( I know I know)and I was told that I was still underbid considerably by Getty. I had no reason to believe they were lying to me.Mikehttp://asmp.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7553278593406733377.post-49688101223390621892009-09-11T18:32:35.572-04:002009-09-11T18:32:35.572-04:00As the interviewer, I don't "think" ...As the interviewer, I don't "think" Getty is charging those types of figures - I know they have/are, as shared with me by Getty clients who have signed off on those invoices. When you get a $250 Getty assignment as a freelancer, and transfer all rights, you're not getting a 50% split at all in these cases.

-- JohnJohn Harringtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16941161605443479300noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7553278593406733377.post-54273294763322607502009-09-11T17:53:26.233-04:002009-09-11T17:53:26.233-04:00funny how the interviewer thinks getty charges $50...funny how the interviewer thinks getty charges $5000 for an assignment but then Micelotta says that the realities of the marketplace are that the economy is down, especially in the entertainment segment. i'm not sure which photographers you are speaking with but i know that the getty contracts offer freelancers 50% of any assignments that have been hired, which may be why getty has hired so many new entertainment staffers.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
